Botanical name: Cymbopogon citratus
A stunning ornamental plant you can also eat!
Four clumps of the west Indian lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) per container. This west Indian type is easily recognisable by its green stems, and is by far the best for Asian cooking. (The red-stemmed variety is the east Indian type (Cymbopogon flexuosus) and not as flavoursome.)
Dimensions of the 9 L Air-Pot container are 269 mm diameter × 275 mm high, and from the base of the pot to the top of the fronds is easily a metre.
These plants have put on a real growth spurt now summer is here, and have responded really well to the aeration and fertile environment an Air-Pot® provides.
As the container fills, the reusable Air-Pot® design makes it too easy to divide these plants to plant out elsewhere with minimal disturbance. Keep back a few to begin a new colony by repotting in a reassembled Air-Pot®, which can be used over and over again as it is long-lasting, strong, and highly UV-resistant!
